Theme: Defining AvB Business and AvB Community

I. INTRODUCTION: THE DUALITY OF AvB

At Apollo Veve Baze (AvB), we pride ourselves on being a well-structured and unique entity in Gatura Town, seamlessly blending commerce and community. However, to our external publics, it's essential to distinguish between the two key aspects of our operations

1. AvB Business

This is the commercial arm of AvB, primarily involved in the sale of jaba and peanuts, run by Paul Kimani, popularly known as Apollo. AvB Business caters to a wide array of customers—residents and non-residents alike, encompassing both new and regular clients. Its primary objective is to provide quality products to jaba enthusiasts

2. AvB Community

This is the social and communal wing of AvB, run jointly by Paul Kimani and askMRMOI. It is exclusively for resident customers, those who choose to stay within the AvB precincts after purchasing jaba. These individuals, collectively referred to as WanaBaze, automatically become part of the AvB Community and are subject to its internal rules and ethos

II. AvB COMMUNITY: STRUCTURE AND RULE

The AvB Community stands out as a model of self-regulation and mutual respect, governed by clear and unambiguous rules

AvB Rules

1. Respect for Fellow WanaBaze

Every MwanaBaze is expected to maintain decorum and treat others with dignity. Insults, mockery, or disruptive behavior will not be tolerated

2. No Unauthorized Alteration

WanaBaze must not tamper with AvB property, including the Noticeboard, MiniLibrary, or newsletter materials

3. Cleanliness and Orderliness

Every MwanaBaze is responsible for ensuring their space is clean. Spitting carelessly or leaving litter is strictly prohibited

4. No Unauthorized Sales or Solicitation

Only products authorized by AvB Business are permitted within the precincts

5. Written Communications Only

All grievances, suggestions, or official matters must be submitted in writing for transparency and proper documentation

Consequences of Rule Violation

First Offense: Verbal warning in the presence of other WanaBaze

Second Offense: Written reprimand, which is displayed on the AvB Noticeboard

Third Offense: Temporary suspension from AvB Community privileges

Gross Misconduct: Permanent exclusion from the AvB Community

NB: Once outside the AvB space, WanaBaze are subject to the broader laws of society and moral codes, as AvB does not monitor their behavior beyond its precincts

III. THE CASE FOR WRITTEN COMMUNICATION

AvB is perhaps the only business in Gatura Town with a well-documented mission and vision

Mission: To foster a responsible and engaging jaba-chewing culture

Vision: To build a cohesive and progressive community united by shared pastimes

To maintain professionalism and clarity, AvB requires all communications—whether internal or external—to be in writing. This policy serves several purposes

1. Transparency and Accountability

Written records serve as evidence and ensure transparency in all dealings, minimizing disputes and misunderstandings

2. Legal Validity

Under Kenyan law, written communications are considered more credible and enforceable than oral agreements. For instance, The Law of Contract Act (Cap 23, Laws of Kenya) emphasizes the significance of written agreements, especially in commercial transactions

3. Inclusivity and Documentation

Written communication ensures that everyone, including external publics such as government authorities, understands the expectations and actions of AvB. It also creates a historical record for reference

4. Professionalism

By requiring written communication, AvB establishes itself as a serious and organized entity, setting a standard for other businesses and communities in Gatura Town

Policy for External Public

We expect any individual or entity wishing to communicate with us to do so in writing. Whether it's the government, civil society, or other organizations, written communication guarantees that their concerns or queries are addressed with the seriousness they deserve

IV. WHY AvB STANDS OUT

Community-Oriented: AvB is more than a business—it’s a community united by mutual respect and shared values

Structured Operations: With clear rules and defined roles, AvB is a model of efficiency and harmony

Transparent and Professional: From its Noticeboard to its newsletters, AvB thrives on clarity and accountability

Pioneering Spirit: AvB’s written communication policy and well-articulated mission/vision set it apart as a forward-thinking establishment

V. A MESSAGE TO WANABAZE

The internal rules exist to protect and promote a conducive environment for everyone within AvB Community. Recent violations have already demonstrated their necessity. We urge all WanaBaze to reflect on the importance of adhering to these guidelines to avoid further punitive measures. Let us continue building a community we can all be proud of

VI. CONCLUSION

AvB represents a perfect synergy of business and community. As we move forward, let us embrace our rules, values, and commitment to written communication as a blueprint for excellence in Gatura Town
